Famous Bangladeshi Chicken Tehari Recipe

Today I will share with you a very popular recipe of Bangladeshi Chicken Tehari recipe of Old Dhaka. If you want to make an alternative recipe to Biryani then this recipe is perfect for you. If any guest comes to the house, if they have never tried this Tehari, it will be a nice surprise. You can make this chicken Tehari in a very short time.

This Tehari is so delicious that everyone in the house will appreciate you. Tehari is also made with mutton but today I will teach it with chicken. Usually, we use white oil in biryani, and pulao recipes but this tehari is made with mustard oil, so this mustard oil gives a very nice taste to tehari. So let’s see how to make this delicious Chicken Tehari Recipe.

ingredients for chicken tehari recipe

Below are the ingredients we used for this recipe.- You can use as little or as much as you like. Let’s take a look at the ingredients required for this recipe.

Chicken 500 gram,

Mustard oil 1/4 cup,

Bay leaves 2 leaves, Cardamom 4, Cinnamon 4 sticks, Cloves 4

Onion sliced 1 cup,

Garlic paste 1 Tablespoon

Ginger paste 2 Tablespoon,

Salt to taste,

Black paper

Mace 1 tablespoon (javetri )

Red chili powder 1 tablespoon

Hot water 1 cup,

Plain yogurt 1/4 cup,

Nutmeg 1/4 tablespoon

Ingredients for Rice

Mustard oil 1/4 cup,
Onion chopped 1 cup,
Garlic paste 1 Tablespoon,
Ginger paste 2 Tablespoon,
White basmati rice 3 cup,
Hot water 2 cup,
Hot milk 1 cup,
Kawra water 1Tablespoon,
Ghee 4 Tablespoon,
Green chili sliced 4 pcs

How to make chicken tehari recipe

First of all, we will take 1/4 cup of Mustard oil, when it is well heated, we will add your Bay leaves 1 leaf, Cardamom 4, Cinnamon 2 sticks of, and fry them lightly, when we see that the smell of light spices is leaving, then we will add the rest of the ingredients.

Then I will add 2 tablespoons of ginger paste along with chopped onion. First, add the onions here and when they are soft, then add your ginger paste and fry them well until the spices smell.

Once the onions and ginger are fried, add your washed chicken and cook well. After frying for some time, add an equal amount of black pepper powder, red langar guru, an equal amount of mace powder (javitri), nutmeg powder, and salt according to taste. Mix all these things well and keep it until the water comes out from the chicken.

After about 10 minutes, I will remove the chicken and see if the water has left the chicken, then I will add 2 spoons of sour curd and mix it well with the chicken. I will check again for some more time.

After cooking for some time, we will dry the water of the chicken as much as possible and then keep the chickens aside.

Then take 1 cup basmati rice wash it well and drain the water. Then I first heat my kadai/pan and put enough oil in it. When oil is hot, add chopped onion and ginger batter and fry well for a while, then add rice. Fry the rice well for 2 to 3 minutes. Before frying, I add bay leaves, 4 cloves, 2 cardamoms, and 2 cinnamon sticks, salt to taste. Mix everything well and fry.

After frying the rice for a while add hot water mix it well with milk and keep it aside until the rice is cooked.

When the rice is cooked, add the cooked chicken to it along with ghee, water, and 4 to 5 green chilies. I will boil it well and cook it for a while.
